Tips and tricks

Choose how you want to play

To begin with, pick the right difficulty setting! "Hard Mode" is no joke. Don't be ashamed to pick "Easy Mode", if you are new to the game you will probably have way more fun that way. You can play the entire game in easy mode if you want. "Hard Mode is only for those players looking for a really tough challenge.

There are several differences between easy and hard mode:

  • The cars are easier to steer in easy mode
  • Opponents are slower in easy mode
  • Checkpoint times and challenge goals are easier in easy mode

Anything you unlock in one mode is also unlocked in the other mode. You can switch between modes at any time, at any point in the menu by tapping the mode display in the upper right hand corner of the screen. Stars and cups earned in easy mode will be grayed out in hard mode. Records for each setting are kept separate.

There are also several other settings you can adjust:

Go to the options menu to adjust the driving to your liking

Tilt Sensitivity (available main options menu)

Default: 50%

Move the slider to change how much you will have to tilt your device in order to turn.

Tilt Drifting On/Off (available via the main options menu)

Default: On

You can choose to change the way drifting is triggered. If you turn tilt drifting off, your car only will drift if you tap the brake hard turns will never trigger a drift.

Camera Tilt On/Off (available via the ingame options menu, and main options menu)

Default: On

You can now choose to have the camera tilt to compensate by tilting the other direction when you tilt your iPhone or iPod Touch to steer.

Auto Accelerate On/Off (available via the ingame options menu, and main options menu)

Default: Off

You can choose to have a car that accelerates automatically. With this option on the gas button is removed and you no longer need to touch any part of the screen to make your car accelerate. Reverse by holding the brake button.

Speedometer mph/kph (available via the main options menu)

Default: kph

You can choose to display your speed in Miles per hour or kilometers per hour

Variable gas and brake position (available via the ingame options menu, and main options menu)

Default: Low

You can choose move the gas and brake buttons to a position higher on the screen for comfort.

Choose the right car for the job

Stick with the Talon G100 (default car) until you get a hang of the way the game handles. It is the easiest car to drive and it is also the best car for perfection challenges. Don't be misled by its low top speed, it's not as big disadvantage you think it is. Its fantastic acceleration makes up for it.

But... to make the very best times however you are going to need to use cars with higher top speeds.

The Meteor GTX might be the best all around car. It has however terrible cornering and a finicky drift so it might take a bit of practice to master.

The Castor Voro is the fastest car and is quite well behaved but has poor acceleration. This car is excellent for Chase Challenges and Checkpoint Challenges.

The Janus Turbo is quite popular among many players.

The other cars all have their own individual characteristics. If you can't beat a track with a particular car try another one.

Drifting

Drifting is the key to Fastlane Street Racing, you can either steer far to the right or left or tap the brakes to begin drifting. Cars with higher cornering ratings can make tighter turns before they start drifting. To stop drifting just straighten out your car. Some cars, particularly those with low balance ratings are harder to control during a drift.

Settings

Adjust tilt sensitivity You can adjust tilt sensitivity in the options menu, If you are having trouble, this may help you control the car.

Try switching views. You may find the car easier to control using the bonnet/hood view

General tips

  • Maintain your speed
  • The trick to mastering Fastlane Street Racing is to try and lose as little speed as possible in the corners. Try not to hit walls or traffic as that will slow you down, particularly while drifting.
  • Don't drift unless you need to!
  • If you can take a corner without drifting do it! you will go faster.
  • Don't turn too late into the corners!
  • Turning too late will send you right into a wall.
  • Learn the courses!

Fastlane Street racing is about precision racing. not driving with reckless abandon. learn how to take the corners without hitting the walls and you will win.
